I was able to purchase and save a quantity of the better surviving lumber. The oak is believed to be approximately \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e\u003cspan\u003e100 to 150 years old\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cspan\u003e, and I wanted to preserve as much of that history and character as possible.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe Back Was Intentionally Left Original\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe reverse side has been left largely \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e\u003cspan\u003euntouched, just as the wood existed on the barn\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cspan\u003e.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eYou can still see the old saw marks, uneven surface, age, natural discoloration, grain, wear, and imperfections from its previous life. I chose not to plane or machine all of that history away because, to me, that is part of what makes reclaimed wood special. Especially wood with a story like this.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eBecause this is genuinely old reclaimed lumber, the back is \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e\u003cspan\u003enot perfectly flat or uniform\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cspan\u003e, although the front was prepared flat for the carving and artwork.
